European hub had more long-lasting problems with disruption and staffing than rivals

Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport said it had “substantially improved” its performance in the first half of the year but the cost of fixing its operations had hit its finances.

Schiphol reported a €44mn underlying net profit for the period, up from a €29mn loss the year before, but said its core aviation business remained lossmaking because of higher operational costs. Overall net profit fell from €65mn to €15mn.
