US-based global infrastructure consulting firm Aecom said it signed on to provide programme management services for the nearly US$4-billion San Diego International Airport (SAN) expansion project in California, US.

The company said the purview includes updates to critical infrastructure, access, and sustainability features, including management of construction on New Terminal 1 and the modernisation of Termain 2 East.

“In its role, AECOM will provide a full range of programme, project and construction management services, as well as diversified specialised services,” said Aecom. “[The new main terminal], the airport’s biggest project ever, will include a new on-airport entrance road to provide travellers with a faster route to the airport.

“New bicycle lanes and a pedestrian path will connect the airport to San Diego’s surrounding communities.”
