Hong Kong is preparing for a major leap in regional travel connectivity as Hong Kong International Airport moves closer to opening the long-awaited departure facilities at Terminal 2. The city’s aviation sector entered a new phase this week after airport authorities completed a large-scale operational exercise designed to test passenger movement, transport coordination and airport processing systems before the official launch on 27 May 2026.
The exercise marked one of the most significant readiness checks carried out at the airport in recent years. More than 1,100 participants joined the operation, representing nearly 30 organisations from across Hong Kong’s aviation and transport sectors. The trial brought together airline staff, airport teams, security personnel, government agencies and service operators in a coordinated effort to ensure the terminal is fully prepared for public use...
