It’s been a particularly snowy — and icy — winter so far in the Greater Toronto Area and Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga has some record-breaking numbers to support that claim.

Pearson officials said on Thursday that when it comes to de-icing aircraft at Canada’s biggest and busiest airport, this past January “was the busiest month in the airport’s history,” with some 6,000 planes de-iced — a record.

Prior to the 2024-25 winter season, the airport beefed up its fleet of snow-clearing and de-icing vehicles/equipment. Several dozen de-icing trucks are at the ready any given day to keep aircraft safely departing Pearson.
