Highlands and Islands Airports’ total bill for the abandoned attempt to centralise air traffic control in Inverness has now hit almost £10.5 million.

The sum in public money blown on the ill-fated project includes a new figure of just over £3.6 million wasted solely on buying and maintaining the soon-to-be demolished New Century House in the city’s Longman Industrial Estate.

The former newspaper office, newly-built and opened by the year 2000, was recently sold for less than half that sum – £1.8 million – to the Port of Inverness.

They plan to knock it down and store wind farm components at the site...
