Five teams taking part in the 2026 Heathrow Early Careers Innovation Challenge, run by New Civil Engineer in partnership with Heathrow Airport, have been shortlisted for further development.
Launched in late 2025, the Heathrow Early Careers Innovation Challenge invited early careers professionals to propose innovative solutions and push design and delivery boundaries and improve the delivery and performance of aviation infrastructure assets.
This national initiative aims to shine a spotlight on emerging talent in aviation engineering and construction, inviting early career professionals to submit ideas that could dramatically improve the delivery of construction and engineering for airports.
Following extensive deliberation, judging has now shortlisted five of the entries to be developed further. These include the use of recycled plastic enhanced asphalt, FOD-Free Gate & Rapid Clearance, Digital Twin enhancement of construction delivery, AI quality assurance in ACC, and kinetic energy walkways...
