Turkish Airlines has announced a transformative investment aimed at revolutionising Istanbul Airport and establishing Türkiye as the world’s premier aviation hub.
This ambitious project, part of the airline’s long-term Vision strategy, is designed to overhaul key infrastructure at Istanbul Airport, significantly expanding its capacity and capabilities. With a focus on cargo, maintenance, and digital services, this investment promises to elevate Turkish Airlines’ global position in both air travel and freight.
One of the centrepieces of Turkish Airlines’ investment is the expansion of the SmartIST cargo terminal at Istanbul Airport. This expansion will see the terminal’s capacity more than double, making it one of the largest air cargo hubs worldwide. The expansion will increase its annual handling capacity from 2.2 million tonnes to 4.5 million tonnes, solidifying Istanbul’s position as a key player in global air freight.
