Opportunities Under ATC Modernization

The FAA also briefed stakeholders (and ACC in a separate meeting) on potential new targets of opportunity arising from the $12.5 billion Congress approved earlier this year for immediate steps to transition to a new air traffic control system. Specifically, private-sector companies may be able to help supplement FAA and airport sponsors during an intensive 3-year rollout of new ATC systems and equipment that will impact airport facilities.

The FAA and sponsors will need to be aware of any current or ongoing projects that may conflict with or impact ATC upgrade activities or access to key areas on airports. ATC upgrade work may also include utility relocation, fiber installation, cabling, and communications installation. These engagements may likely be conducted through reimbursable agreements.
