Airport operator Fraport AG (ETR:FRA) is today opening a 17.4-MWp vertical PV system at Frankfurt Airport.

The system, located along Runway 18 West, has 37,000 vertically-aligned modules. Its electricity will mainly be used for air conditioning of the terminals and to supply the airport's fleet of electric vehicles.

The project supports the goal of Frankfurt Airport becoming carbon-neutral by 2045. From mid-2026, an 85-MW power purchase agreement with EnBW will become effective, which will enable Fraport to meet 100% of its energy needs in Frankfurt from renewable sources, explains Fraport CEO Stefan Schulte.
