There are many steps that airport owners can take to mitigate disruption from redevelopment work – and technology can streamline the whole process

As secure and time-sensitive ecosystems involving diverse stakeholders, airports are inherently complex environments with unique operational risks. Factors including extreme weather, geopolitical instability and even mechanical breakdowns can disrupt schedules and affect the passenger experience. But maintaining resilience is never more challenging than when the underlying infrastructure is being redeveloped.

Managing every stage of construction is vital – a task as complex as the spaces where those projects unfold.

Efficiency relies on effective planning, as recognized by IATA’s latest Airport Development Reference Manual (ADRM). Now on its 12th edition, the manual includes for the first time a specific chapter on planning for construction delivery, to help airport owners understand the construction process and achieve a design that not only works once it’s complete but can also be delivered with minimal impact on capacity, passenger experience and service levels.
