South Yorkshire mayor Oliver Coppard and council leaders are poised to decide on a critical funding proposal to reopen Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA), with a meeting scheduled for Tuesday 9 September.
The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) Board will consider committing up to an additional £159.52M, supplementing the £16M already invested in the airport’s revival.
Central to the reopening plan is the South Yorkshire Airport City (SYAC) project – a decade-long vision aimed at driving economic development with the airport as its cornerstone. The project supports the wider Gateway East site’s transformation into a sustainable aviation and advanced manufacturing hub, leveraging the region’s designation as the UK’s first Investment Zone focused on cutting-edge manufacturing engineering.
