Kalamata International Airport is set to enter a transformative phase with an extensive upgrade plan aimed at bolstering its position as a pivotal tourism gateway to the Peloponnese. The initiative is designed to double passenger traffic within the next five years, positioning the airport as a vital hub for regional development and enhancing the overall visitor experience.
The major infrastructure overhaul will be led by a consortium awarded a 40-year concession by the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF). This consortium includes key players such as Fraport Greece, Delta Airport Investments (Kopelouzos Group), and Pileas (Konstantakopoulos Group).
At the heart of the upgrade is the construction of a new terminal building, set to span around 9,000 square meters. This new facility will significantly enhance passenger flow, providing more space for retail, dining, and modern services. In addition to the terminal, the project includes several other improvements, including the expansion of aircraft parking areas, upgrades to existing facilities, and the introduction of cutting-edge IT infrastructure. The project is expected to require an investment of 73.5 million euros.
