Birmingham Airport has published its final £500m masterplan, following a 12-week public consultation. The comprehensive study focuses on utilising its single runway, setting out a strategic phased plan to serve 18 million passengers a year by 2033.

Conceived by Pascall+Watson, the masterplan proposes a major expansion and modernisation of the existing terminal facilities, additional aircraft stands and improved public transport and road connectivity, including links connecting the airport to the future HS2 Interchange Station.

The proposed development will allow Birmingham to increase capacity by 40% and maintain its position as one of Europe’s leading regional airports. It is estimated that the scheme will create 34,000 jobs and generate £2bn for the local economy.
