The British Aviation Group is dismayed by the announcement today of the further postponement of a decision on runway capacity in the South East of the UK. The UK is a world leader in airport development - and our airports are both the shop window for and a link to our global markets.
In a post Brexit world, the role of our airports as a gateway for trade will be, if anything, yet more critical. The continued delay in airport expansion in the SE is damaging to our trade and causes the UK to fall further behind our international competitors - whilst hub airports in cities such as Istanbul, Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore proceed apace.
We urge the government to make a decision on airport expansion a priority in the early autumn - demonstrating commitment to infrastructure expansion and the UK economy, and helping our connection to the world. In parrallel it is essential that we maintain focus on wider investment in airport infrastructure across the UK - ensuring market access for businesses across all regions whilst improving security, enhancing passenger experience and reducing environmental impact.
