A new pier and multi-storey car park has opened at Manchester Airport, the first facilities to be completed as part of the Pascall+Watson supported £1bn transformation of the airport.

As design team leaders, we have worked closely with Manchester Airports Group and main contractor, Laing O’ Rourke, to design and deliver the projects over a fast-paced 14 month programme.

Connected to Terminal 2, the 216m long pier which consists of 11 gates, 14 stands and a link bridge, creates a calm and coherent dwell space with seating for over 1,400 departing passengers.

A new signage and product branding identity has also been created to ensure a seamless passenger journey.

Manchester Airport is the UK’s third largest airport, serving over 28 million passengers per year to over 210 destinations worldwide.

Andrew Cowan, CEO of Manchester Airport, commented:

“Today is a significant milestone for Manchester Airport as we deliver the first phase of what is the biggest investment we have made in our 80 year history"

"Our customers can start to enjoy the new facilities, at the same time as getting a taste of what to expect from the next stages of our £1bn transformation programme"
