Benoy Announced in Heathrow Shortlist for Terminal of the Future Expansion

Heathrow has shortlisted four British design firms, including Benoy, to create pioneering new concepts to bring to life the future vision of the leading airport. The concepts produced by each firm were unveiled this month and revealed a first look into the future of the country’s global gateway.

The shortlisted architects were challenged by Heathrow to push the boundary of what an airport could or should be. Revealing bold new ideas for a world-class sustainable airport, the designs include strategies to innovative the passenger experience, integrate local communities and deliver the best of British design.

“From welcoming Concorde to the landmark Terminals 2 and 5, Heathrow has always been at the heart of showcasing the best of British innovation and design, said Barry Weeks, Heathrow’s Head of Design. “The visionary concepts are just the start of a dialogue which will fundamentally redefine what an airport is, how it looks and feels, how it interacts with its environment and an increasingly demanding generation of new passengers and importantly enhancing how it connects with the communities around it. Our ambition for expansion is to transform Heathrow once again – building Britain a value for money global gateway at the forefront of sustainable development and innovative design.”

Benoy Global Director Tom Cartledge commented on the appointment saying, “The Aviation sector is incredibly exciting at the moment as we are rapidly evolving our expectations and imaginations of what an Airport represents. We are extremely honoured to be included in the shortlist and our concept has reimagined Heathrow as a ‘Destination’ in its own right, transforming the site to be at the forefront of the next generation of airports.”

Alongside Benoy, the shortlist of firms includes HOK, Grimshaw and Zaha Hadid. Heathrow will announce a final concept designer in July following the next phase of the tender process which will further test the shortlisted firms’ creativity. To view the press realease please click on the link:
