UKTI and the British Aviation Group are leading a mission to Hong Kong and China from 14 - 18 December 2015.

The key projects include Beijing New International Airport, Chengdu New Airport, Qingdao, Dalian, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Nanjing, Haikou, Changsha, Pudong and Hongqiao T1 in Shanghai, with a summary below: 

  • Build the Beijing new airport 
  • Expand the Guangzhou, Nanjing, Changsha, Haikou, Harbin, Nanning, Lanzhou and Yinchuan airports 
  • Build a number of new regional airports and general-purpose airports 
  • Conduct research on the building of new airports in Chengdu, Qingdao and Xiamen (all moving ahead fast with design for Qingdao already awarded)
  • Speed up the construction of new-generation air traffic control systems.

BACKGROUND:

During the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), China will build 56 new airports, 16 for removal and 91 for upgrading / expansion. Total infrastructure investment will be US$64.79 billion / £40.34 billion (RMB425 billion). 

According to “China Civil Airport Layout Plan”, there will be over 70 new airports to be built in the next 10 years. Projected total number of airports in China by 2015 is 220 and 270 by 2020 (including 2 more global / international air hubs) and 300 for 2030 (including 3 more global / international air hubs). In addition, Hong Kong International Airport is undergoing a major £12 billion expansion programme, with construction due to start in 2016.

British companies are active in China's airports industry, and, to date have won major contracts in a number of the major airport projects e. g Beijing Terminal 3 and Kunming new airport as well as airport expansion projects in Xian, Hangzhou and Yinchuan. They have been successful in design, airport equipment supply, security, air traffic control and ticketing systems. 

In Hong Kong, the Government are committed to expansion of the international airport in order to provide capacity to 2035 and beyond. The £12bn airport expansion project is currently at the scheme design stage.

WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE:

This visit, which is for UK companies only, will focus on the opportunities presented by airport developments with the Hong Kong airport expansion plans and selected airports in mainland China, and will be suited to companies offering design, engineering and technical services as well as terminal fit out, equipment and security suppliers.
