Following European and UK Department for Transport (DfT) regulatory requirements, all UK airports are required to screen all hold baggage through machines using the latest threat detection technology.  All non-certified Standard 3 technology machines must be replaced 1st September 2018.

Arup worked alongside MAG plc to develop feasible options to meet the future regulatory requirements at all four of their airports.  This involved significant technical baggage analysis, development of realistic phasing, stakeholder engagement, multi-disciplinary input into the feasibility of the options, high level costing and programme development.  The final feasibility reports provided high level practical options to progress to the next stage in design development.  The options were not only developed to address HBS replacement, but are also cognisant of the wider technical and commercial objectives of each airport (Bournemouth, East Midlands, Manchester, Stansted Airports).
