Kuwaiti authorities have given the go-ahead for the construction of a new airport in the northern part of the country, reported the state news agency Kuna.

This comes following media reports last week stating that the Municipal Committee Council of the Jahra Governorate is coordinating with the Directorate- General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on allocation of a site for the construction of the new airport.

Kuwait currently has an international airport located 9.6 miles south of Kuwait City, which serves as the hub for Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways.

The setting up of the new airport comes in line with the studies and proposals of the fourth structural plan for Kuwait, sated the report.
