CAA International (CAAi), the technical cooperation arm of the UK Civil Aviation Authority has been shortlisted in two categories at the annual UK Social Enterprise Awards
The awards, that recognise organisations that give back, enrich communities and make a contribution to society, have a total of 14 categories, showcasing some of the UK’s best social enterprises that tackle social and environmental problems, both in Britain and overseas.
CAAi has been nominated in the “International Impact” and the “Education, Training and Jobs” categories. The latter nomination is in recognition of CAAi’s fully funded training programme for developing countries
, in cooperation with ICAO.
CAAi became a social enterprise in 2017, in a bid to make a greater impact to aviation safety and security standards across the globe. Under a new profit-for-a-purpose strategy, CAAi is investing funds back into the global aviation community, through targeted high-impact training initiatives – and where it is needed most. With over 90 countries still below the global average of safety oversight standards, CAAi is able to provide assistance for long-term gains that will benefit the travelling public and support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.
Maria Rueda, Managing Director at CAAi said, “We are thrilled to have been nominated for two prestigious national awards. At CAAi, we firmly believe everyone should have access to safe and secure air transport services. Over the past year, our team has worked in over 60 countries and trained thousands of people from all across the world in a bid to achieve this goal. For our efforts to be recognised by UK Social Enterprise is a great achievement and something we can all be very proud of.”
Ben Alcott, International Director at the CAA added, “This is well-deserved recognition for CAAi and all the experts across CAA that contribute so much. It’s a real team effort and my thanks go out to you all.”
The ceremony will take place on Wednesday 28th November at London’s Guildhall.
