The Department for International Trade together with the British Aviation Group is inviting you to attend the UK-Romania Airports Business Exchange on the 20 January 2021.

17 airports in need to increase terminal capacity – Romania to spend 1.9 bn Euros on airport modernisation and expansion

Before the Coronavirus Pandemics hit, an increase of 200% in passenger traffic increase in the next 15 years, was forecasted for the Romanian market that is seen as one of the most dynamic and fast-moving in Europe. The Romanian Government is committed to continue the development plans according to The National Investment and Recovery Plan issued in July 2020. Doubling the terminals’ capacity, building new terminals, runways, platforms and facilities, and updating security equipment (in line with EU law) are still the focus of planned investments for the next years.

2 key projects in Romanian airports are building a new terminal for the main airport in Bucharest/Otopeni (Henri Coanda Airport, with direct flights to 9 British airports), an investment estimated at 1.1 billion Euros, and the advanced construction of Brasov airport who also plans to concession their operations once the airport is functional. Alongside Bucharest Otopeni and Brasov, most regional airports (Iasi, Cluj, Timisoara, Bacau, Targu Mures, Constanta, Baia Mare, Satu Mare, Oradea, Arad, Craiova, Sibiu, Suceava, Tulcea, Bucharest Baneasa) already run at full capacity, which convinced authorities on the need for investments in airport modernisation and expansion across the country.
