SUMMARY:UK-China Green Airport Workshop (Online Session)
DESCRIPTION:UK-China Green Airport Workshop (Online Session)\n
Booked by - Hannah Sallabanks\n
Info - ·     BACKGROUND
The Airports Council International (ACI) World economic analysis indicates that, COVID-19 continues to impact the global aviation market and air travel, international passenger traffic may not hit 2019 levels until 2024. With the effective execution of anti-epidemic measures, COVID-19 has been much contained in China. Domestic flights have risen to slightly less than  Pre-COVID level, whereas international flights recovery remain slow due to the global pandemic and travel restrictions.
The work associated with airport infrastructure development in China keeps going on without being much affected by COVID-19. Hence, opportunities remain available to the UK supply chain in this area. China has 238 civil airports by 2019 and that number will reach to 400 by 2035 which means every year on average 10 new airports will be built.
The China Civil Aviation 14th Five Year Plan (2021-2025) is due to be announced in the first half of 2021 aiming to increase over 30 commercial airports, in which key development programmes are as below:
·    - Develop four airport clusters: Jingjinji (Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei) Airport Cluster , the Yantze River Delta Airport Cluster, Greater Bay Area Airport Cluster, and Chengdu-Chongqing Airport Cluster.
·     - Carry out expansion and refurbish plan for Guangzhou Airport, Shenzhen Airport, Kunming Airport, Xi’an Airport, Chongqing Airport, Urmqi Airport and Harbin International Airport.
·     - Carry out relocation for brand new airports in Xiamen, Dalian and Sanya.
·     - Build a number of regional airports such as Suzhou, Jiaxing, Ruijin, Qianbei, etc.
The China Civil Aviation 14th Five Year Planwill also be heavily focusing on the Four-Type Airport Initiative (Safte, Green, Smart and passenger oriented) which sets out direction for the future development of Chinese airports and a shift in emphasis towards building smarter and more sustainable airport infrastructure.

·     EVENT PROGRAMME
Co-hosted by the Department for International Trade (DIT), the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and the China Civil Airports Association (CCAA), organised a UK-China Green Airport Construction Workshop which was held both physically in Xi’an and virtually to accommodate those UK speakers and participants who were unable to travel to China around that time. This event formed part of the DIT Airport Industry Week in China – a one-week programme of activities combined with the UK-China G2G Airport Working Group. Further information on the wider programme can be found attached:  UK-China Green Airport Workshop flyer and registration form 18 May 2021.pdf (379 KB)
