Invitation

Land use planning can play a crucial role in reducing the annoyance that people perceive from aircraft noise. To that point, the partners of the Horizon 2020 project, ANIMA (Aviation Noise Impact Management through Novel Approaches), invite you to an event dedicated to assessing the interactions between land use planning and noise annoyance. The event will take place in Brussels, on 18 February, between 9:00 and 17:00, at the Airport Regions Conference offices (Rue Montoyer 21, 1000). A DRAFT AGENDA is available here. Secure your place, register here! This event is meant to engage with regional and local authorities and communities , airports, policy makers, noise experts and spatial planners. It will reinforce exchange between end-users and researchers on effective noise management policies and practices and on the role of research in reducing airport noise annoyance. The event will showcase the newly developed Virtual Community Tool that may assist people around the airports as well as those involved in noise policies to envisage scenarios and related aviation noise and to take decisions accordingly. We will be discussing policies about land use planning around airports, research about new city noise designs, new materials, new building shapes and structures to reduce aviation noise, opportunities to contribute to land use planning, and the communities perception on it. Additionally, four case studies - Amsterdam Schiphol, London Heathrow, Frankfurt and Vienna - will be presented from the point of view of both airports and local communities. Airports will showcase their spatial planning framework and current challenges, while local authorities will talk about their necessities in terms of noise data and noise annoyance. Please see below the speakers confirmed so far:

Laurent Leylekian, ANIMA Project Coordinator, ONERA (The French Aerospace Lab)
Marco Paviotti, European Commission, DG ENV
Daniele Violato, Innovation & Networks Executive Agency
Dr Delia Dimitriu, Manchester Metropolitan University
Dr Ferenc Marki, Budapest University of Technology and Economics
Dirk Schreckenberg, ZEUS, Centre for Applied Psychology, Social and Environmental Research
Dominique Lazarski, UECNA (European Union Against Aviation Noise)
Maarten van der Scheer, Schiphol Airport +TBC for the regional perspective
Thomas Lurz, Fraport A.G.
Joachim Wempe, FrankfurtRheinMain Metropolitan Region
Xavier Oh, Heathrow Airport
John Stewart, HACAN
Franz Joechlinger, Vienna Airport
